Last Preparations for the Nesting Season

Yesterday I dedicated myself to final preparatory work for the coming nesting season. I had put up new bird boxes in December but assembled a new one in February that I am hoping will be used by Great Crested Flycatchers...well, one can hope! That box was mounted in the deepest part of our backyard woods. I also inspected the other boxes and removed any debris from last year. Perhaps these will attract Carolina Wrens, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, or Eastern Bluebirds. I know the local species are already starting to select nest sites so time is critical now for me to do my part. And what do you know---the new box was being investigated by a Titmouse and a Chickadee within two hours of installation!
