The Lost Grosbeak

During the spring migrations of 2007, before I acquired my BirdCam, I had the pleasure of hosting a migrating Rose Breasted Grosbeak at my feeder station. I first sighted this Grosbeak—a male—at my largest sunflower seed feeder on April 21st, and it was a daily visitor until at least the 24th, when the photo to the right was taken. I have not seen any Rose Breasted Grosbeaks since. I am hoping for a second visit this year: all of North Carolina falls into their migration corridor. At the very least I shall train the BirdCam on that feeder in the 3rd week of April and see what comes. This bird was truly a brilliant splash of color against the equally dazzling greens of spring in Cary!
