Don't Take Feeders Down Too Soon!

A lesson in not acting too quickly. I elected, as part of my task list for a rainy Saturday, to take down several of the hummingbird nectar feeders. After all, my residents were long gone and I wasn't crazy about maintaining too many feeders for a long-odds Rufous Hummingbird. After the last was down and the survivor was cleaned and restocked, you can imagine my surprise when a hummingbird immediately swooped in and took a long pull of nectar. I promptly reinstalled additional nectar feeders and watched in fascination as a plainly exhausted (or at least very thirsty bird worked those feeders all afternoon. I repositioned the BirdCam but came up with only a few very bad photos. This is the best of those, and indicates I have, in all likelihood, a migrating female Ruby Throated Hummingbird. I spotted her again today so perhaps she decided to take advantage of the plentiful energy food before continuing south. I need to be less hurried on these feeder changes!
