Migrant Hummer Stays Another Day

The weekend excitement continued through Sunday as our (presumably one) guest female Ruby Throated Hummingbird was observed throughout the day at at least two of our nectar feeders. I collected enough fieldmark data to conclusively identify her as a Ruby Throated (color and tail feathers did it.) And I am keeping BirdCam up at my west side dish feeder at least a day and perhaps Tuesday as well in hopes of additional pictures. I'm deeply curious whether the good eats will entice her to delay her next leg. What fascinates me more is what drew her here. Just dumb luck? An irresistable flash of red? Or is there something else that connects bird and stop? We can be sure there is plenty of fuel and shelter here. I did my part to help one more winged jewel make it to the winter grounds.
