Final Weeks For Hummingbirds

I have lately been seeing a sure sign of fall. Activity at my various hummingbird nectar feeders has picked up considerably. Based on past patterns I cannot expect to see these green jewels for more than perhaps three weeks. And in advance of that great outbound migration the Ruby Throateds begin to bulk up in their own way. Data I have seen suggest that the birds will lose half their body weight during the nonstop migration across the Gulf of Mexico. I keep mine well fed, both by offering nectar and also by maintaining a natural food-rich environment. Meanwhile I'll plan to enjoy these last precious days of hummer sightings!
