The experts all counsel that an ideal bird habitat should provide food, water, and cover, and ideally should allow natural food choices. We've taken that advice to heart and have the benefit of a reasonably thick buffer behind the house where things run as they will. In our time it has become thick with vines in the southwest corner and as a result has become a fine territory for all manner of birds. I augumented these offerings with various feeders and also a bird bath. My little Shangri-La has attracted Cardinals, Towhees, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Thrashers, and surely many others as well. The sharp eyed reader will spot a male Northern Cardinal perched in the heart of this thicket near the top center of the photograph. Further landscaping improvements are in the cards. I'm hoping to improve my bird "curb appeal" a little more.
