A Frustrating Loss

We experienced a very sad loss on Sunday. It appears that a female Northern Cardinal flew into one of the windows nearest the feeder stations and suffered an immediate mortal injury. What was frustrating is that I had recently replaced the window strike decals on those same windows and the forensic evidence suggests that the Cardinal hit the sticker. So this bird was so startled (or ill?) that it didn't even see the decals. I can only do so much to help reduce avian death and injury. Thankfully we have had the foresight to apply the decals as at least one step in that direction. Perhaps this action will save some other visitor from the fate of our lost Cardinal. And hopefully I will figure out what happened Sunday and find a way to ensure that it doesn't happen again.
