I reported on
September 29th that we lost a Cardinal despite having put up fresh window decals. Yesteday, we took another loss. We found a dead Pine Warbler on the deck. There is no question the warbler had hit the window in spite of the presence of the decals. Suffice it to say I lost confidence in this product and am going to pick up a different type or find a different solution this week. This is a definite problem for songbirds. One
widely published estimate suggests that
one billion birds are killed by impacts with reflective glass every year. Even if this is a widely overstated estimate it's still too many and we who feed the birds must do our part to keep our friends safe. I'll keep readers posted on what we come up with.
