Bird Bottle Bust

A couple of years ago we received a gift "bird bottle" remanufactured by the artisans at Colonial Williamsburg Marketplace. It is a beautiful product to be sure, but whatever the birds make think of the thing in the Virginia tidewater, it has been a solid "no-thanks!" nest choice around here. Of my current seven bird "boxes" this is the only one that has had not even the slightest signs of nesting activity in two seasons. I have done a little web surfing and am entertaining the theory that this bottle really needs to be affixed to a house. One blogger I found claims she had good luck with wrens almost immediately after attaching the bottle to a spot under her eaves. I have been entirely unsuccessful with wrens, and desiring to give our gift-giving friends a positive report, am going to see what I can do to get this thing on the house. Perhaps we will see some activity, at last, in 2010.
