Today's reading of the coming week's weather forecast convinced me that it is finally time to put the bird baths on a winter footing. The early morning temperature expected for Tuesday is now down to a few degrees short of freezing. Experience shows that we can expect such a night as early as 10/22 and, on average, 10/28. So I rigged up the bird bath deicer on the pedestal bath and, as I do not have equipment (yet) for it, took down and cleaned the ground level bath for winter storage. It felt like winter today, too. We didn't get out of the mid-50s which is more like a December than October day. So the sting of making the seasonal change wasn't so bad. Now we are set for the cold times. The birds will have a dependable source of clean, ice-free water no matter how crummy it gets.
