Yesterday was a very exciting day at Cary BirdCam. Late in the morning my BirdCam snapped its 50,000th still picture. Too bad that it wasn't a terribly exciting picture! (see right.) Well, properly said,
a BirdCam did this as I had two product swaps in 2008 and am on my third BirdCam 1.0. First light came on December 15th, 2007, 668 days ago. So for you number junkies, that's an average of 75 photos per day and 85 per day on the 586 days the camera actually took any photographs. And, we're talking about 39.9 gigabytes of photo data! Of these, I saved 1,464 to my "best of BirdCam" folder, which means 97% of the photos taken weren't exactly award-winning, so you can see that the secret to beautiful images with BirdCam is to take an awful lot of them. It's time for some balloons and noisemakers to celebrate this milestone, and after that dies down, I'll look forward to my 100,000th photo, which I'll expect around August 20th, 2011.
