In the two previous winters I have owned a BirdCam my first Junco photo has usually come up fairly late in the season (12/17/07 and 1/16/09). But I have my first picture even before our first frost of the season! Regrettably the bird was off in the background (this is a cropped photograph) and I wouldn't be able to use this for anything but evidence that the Junco was on the grounds. But this provides a great teaching moment for BirdCammers: pay attention to the entire photograph. You can learn a good deal by taking in what birds are doing in the background be it perching, moving, or whatever. For my part, I'll still be working on getting a close-up of these wonderful ground pounders.
