Not On The Hit Parade

It seems that every season I have at least one feeder that is scorned, or at least not on the birds' hit parade. This winter that would be a peanut piece feeder I put out only in the cold months. A few birds pick at it, but the BirdCam evidence is quite conclusive that it isn't getting enough hits to warrant attention. This is fascinating because peanut butter is always a crowd pleaser, and because the peanut pieces have been smash hits in some seasons. I did poorly two years ago, great last winter, and now... I don't see any reason to pack this one away quite yet. Demand for food will be very high in the early spring, and it this is not a hard feeder to clean and restock. This is a good lesson. If you only have space for a few feeders, this food product won't be a good idea. And if you can run the 25 I do (!) you must be prepared for the occasional dud. But you'll never know in advance what that will be!
