Humor in Birding

Birding is fun. That's axiomatic with us. But as often as not, birding can be funny. Either birds can behave in ways that amuse us, like say the crazy gyrations my Robins make when "attacking" a suet basket. Or they be funny just by being in the right place at the right time. I took this hilarious photo of a Great Blue Heron perched on a fish food dispenser at our oldest municipal park. The dispenser is marked "Sport Fish Restoration." And who might be one of nature's premier fishers, eager to profit from the cultivation of a larger fish population...? Okay, maybe I am the only one laughing. But I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this delightful juxtaposition of subject and object. Moments like this make birding more than just a nice jaunt in wildlife places.
