Mahonia Raiders Out in Force

It took over a week of trial and error, but I am at last obtaining a good BirdCam photo record of the birds raiding berries from our Mahonia bushes. As is true every year, it's mainly a thrush game: Robins, Catbirds, and Mockingbirds predominate. I've also observed and recorded Cardinals and Brown Thrashers. They're all doing their usual thorough job and I am quite sure the last berry will vanish into a crop before June 1st. I spent some time over the weekend observing traffic, and it was amazing to see the birds booming in and out of the bushes like jets at a too-busy airport. Mercifully, there's no combat yet: there's plenty to go around even this late in the month. But the season ends soon...

Nice shot. Do you have much luck with the flash on your birdcam. I seem to only get 1 flash picture a day. (night)

Brian,

I switched on the flash feature over the winter and early spring months and did get some flashed images. Not many. But I remember one early morning in February, I think it was, when I had two or three flashed shots.

I am convinced it works but that there is probably a lower sensitivity in the dark. Makes sense to me: my own eyes are far less sensitive in low light to subtler motion.

Admittedly I have not run extensive tests to figure out why the sensitivity is seemingly lower than in daylight. I expect I need to do this so I am a little better informed on the topic!

Best regards
David

Thanks David
I'm going to email wingscapes and see what they advise. Iread somewhere on the net that the recycle time on the flash is super slow on batteries but works well with the power supply but I havent tried this myself. I;ll let you know what I learn, Youre taking great photos btw.
