Pounding Away in Two Ways

The Red Bellied Woodpeckers have been intensely active at my home this past week. Not only does "Romeo" take his daily hammer to the guttering, but now both a male and female are making very frequent visits to the suet baskets. Almost certainly they are feeding a hatchling or two, although I do not know exactly where the nest is. Based on BirdCam photo counts the RBWs are the birds doing the most damage to the suet cakes I put out. Just look at this female! she has a big 'ol piece of hot pepper suet just right to stuff down the gullet of her young one. It should be interesting to see how long the suet assault lasts, and when Junior Red makes its debut.
