It has been a long wait, but at last our Trumpet Creeper has flowered: a sure lure for hummingbirds. I know they're now around, but any inducement to stick around is very welcome. We are fortunate to have quite a Trumpet Creeper plantation. The vine shown runs clear up a loblolly pine--perhaps 40 or 50 feet if not more-- and the plant is on three other trees and is busy growing elsewhere, too. The bright flowers do as much to say "Hello Hummers!" as anything I could ever do. I have not seen the hummers up there yet, but my instincts tell me they are busy tapping the nectar. Now... hm.. how can I get a BirdCam that far up?
