More Brown Headed Nuthatch Sightings

Brown Headed Nuthatches have been a maddeningly difficult species to predict here. I'll see them as regular as clockwork for a period of time, then they vanish for as long. I haven't noticed any in a couple of months. And this week: they're back and mining for suet with gusto. What gives? Do these birds vary their diet that much? Do foods go on and off the Nuthatch Hit Parade so rapidly? One can only guess. Well, I'll be sure to check the suet supply and ensure that these interesting characters have their favorites for as long as they remain interested... which is likely to be a couple of weeks, if I'm lucky!
