For several days now I have been hearing the frequent calls of a Red Tailed Hawk. Yesterday, I got a good look at the bird (but alas, my poor camera did not!) as it "worked the street" moving from backyard to backyard. It has attracted a little too much attention: bird traffic has been extremely light each evening I've observed, there were many warning calls from the songbirds in the tree cover, and even the squirrels are not as much in evidence. Heck, I didn't see even
one on Wednesday! I have been hoping that this is the hawk I have long awaited, for we have at least three fat tree rats just ready to be population-managed. It will be interesting to see if the RTH sticks around or continues its peregrinations in this part of the town.
