The Great Goldfinch Invasion of September 2010 has been a sight to behold. Yesterday I counted over a dozen birds at one time, and that didn't encompass all feeders available on the property. And there was an added surprise: two juveniles were moving about begging for handouts. I caught one of these on camera. The top two birds are a juvenile (left) and its mother (right). The adults handed off and there was a feeding-by-Dad as well. But there were enough birds that I suspect we had several families moving together and the juveniles may not be siblings. There was plenty of Goldfinch activity all day and we were, suffice to say, delighted and entertained for hours.
