Enthused by a sudden influx of American Goldfinches to a tube feeder relocated to the sunny front lawn, Yours Truly picked up a mega-tube (7 lb. capacity.) The expectation was more satisfied Goldfinches. The reality?
no goldfinches. That megatube has been in place for four days and it is still full. Is the new feeder the problem? perhaps. But I also fail to see goldfinches at the other feeders where they were recently plentiful. It's just as likely the family groups, for whatever reason, moved on. It is entirely possible a nice patch of weed seeds was discovered. Or maybe my high degree of activity Saturday unsettled them. At the end of the day, with this species, it's easy come, easy go. One day they're here, the next... In time some other birds will use this feeder, and the goldfinches will be back. We'll see how long each takes.
