A Mostly Slow Month

It is typical for September and October to be fairly slow months around here. Not only is the species count way down, but food consumption is well off pace as well. Suet is moving very slowly, safflower is lasting a little longer than normal, and only sunflower seed is needing daily replenishment---at just the feeders haunted by squirrels. My wallet doesn't mind a little break, and even the reduced bird visitation isn't too hard to take. After all I will, soon enough, see plenty of action assuming that winter is a cold one. And so the true lazy days begin. It is a good time to do all those labors that would otherwise vex the birds. They may be slow--but that doesn't mean I need to be!
