Somewhat Less Trouble

As was true a year ago at this time, the local tree rats, wretched sciurus carolinensis, are more or less causing me a minimum of trouble. One reason: fewer of them. I suspect that I
am dealing with fewer animals. Perhaps the alphas have driven others off? Or are the missing ones road pizza? They are not beating the feeders to death and seem reasonably content with the 6 ounces of seed I leave for them each day. As idyllic as this situation may be, I remain on guard. These miserable rodents have a bad habit of turning greedy in a real hurry, and I have feeders I badly want to keep out of their reach. In 2009 the truce lasted until winter started in earnest. Maybe I'll get the same break!
