Yesterday I reported on the exciting visit of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak to our feeders. It turns out that we have another migrant on the premises. This Gray Catbird was seen at the "big" suet feeder yesterday. Now, Catbirds are for us a strictly summer bird and mine usually leave by the end of the third week of August. I am certain this fellow is a migrant from farther north, especially given we haven't seen one Catbird in over a month, and we haven't experienced storms that could have blown it deep inland. Where is this one headed? I can't tell. It could be a coaster or one that winters in the tropics. Nor can we be sure how long it will visit. With two migrants in one week, I'm pretty satisfied our feeders must have the mojo to attract attention. And that's a pretty good feeling. Bring on more!

We've still got lots of Catbirds up here around Chicago... I suppose more will be passing your way in the coming weeks. Funny that your residents leave so early! It seems ours just started making a lot of noise in the past two weeks. :)
Amy, thanks for sharing that information. Indeed, my Catbird season is surprisingly short given how close we are to a known wintering ground (i.e. the Carolina coast). I'll keep my eye out for any Catbirds from your way!
