Another species that disappeared for a time (albeit only since August) returned last week. An Eastern Bluebird family group (BirdCam suggests three birds) has been making regular visits to the suet feeder. Like the Flickers discussed yesterday, the Bluebirds have surely been enjoying plentiful insect populations. But now, perhaps, the suet is more helpful in supplementing the bug breakfasts. One thing I'm hoping this group takes note of during these visits is a certain nest box, not far away, situated expressly for bluebirds. Will they nest there in the spring? I hope so. Our feeder station at least has been attractive to them, so a nearby nest location ought to appeal as well. In any case, we're enjoying these returnees and hope to have a marvelous winter watching them.
