Did you think by that title I'd lost my mind? No, I'm not enraptured by squirrels. Actually, it's what the squirrel is sitting on. The pole system feeder has resulted, unsurprisingly, in quite a mess below: discarded seeds, seed husks...you know the drill. I'd looked at this with dismay, wondering how dang nasty this patch of ground is going to get. But then I found out, thanks to BirdCam, how the squirrels have flocked to, and stayed on this patch, crabbing for whatever seeds they can find (which seems to be many.) And I have not seen them hardly at all at the back yard feeders. A mess? indeed not. A mess-terpiece. If that's what it takes to keep the rats out of sight and mind, I'll accept the small mountain of husks any day of the week.
