For several evenings now, around 5 PM, we have noticed a male Eastern Towhee dropping by an old platform feeder which has for all intent and purpose become a squirrel property. The Towhee makes a good effort to scratch out sunflower seeds. Given that he's been by day after day he must be getting satisfactory results, but for the life of me I can't imagine the squirrels leave anything uneaten by that time of day. Nonetheless this is a welcome sight: our Towhees are around every day but usually don't come by the feeders. My natural area is full of enough "real" food that they don't have any reason to do so! Scratch on, buddy, and I hope it's worth your trouble!
