This summer I put some money into the Wild Bird Unlimited's Advanced Pole System. Initially skeptical, I was won over by results. The modular system is attractive, and I expect to add a limb or two in the near term. The look is clean enough to not alarm the homeowner association patrols. But so far the best feature of all is that the squirrels have not attacked the thing. Whether they have done so and failed, or merely not bothered is unclear to me. But the photographic evidence is irrefutable. Now if they do succeed in leaping up to the feeders from a nearby juniper, I can still add a pole and 4' of extra hassle. And that baffle does appear to be a problem for the rats. A bit more expensive? yes, but it has its merits and so far at least I don't regret this expenditure in the least.
