For a cold day (an unseasonable ~54 F high and overnight below freezing) it was an awfully dull day here at the feeders. I'm accustomed to seeing the birds practically queue up on the chillier days, but that really wasn't the case at all. I saw a pulse of activity from sunup to about 10 AM, and practically nothing at midday. BirdCam confirmed that even at the suet feeder it was a fairly moderate day in terms of traffic. This all left me mighty confused. Did the morning rush enable birds to warm up well enough to dog it the rest of the day? or are many of them someplace else? Much to think about, and much to be watching for the next few days as we inch into December.
