
No birds here, you're thinking. True, in the case of the photo. False in the case of the subject of the photo. Fall provides opportunities galore to put the ejecta of the yard to work for the birds. Our trimmed branches and dead vegetable matter find their way to the Back Yard Hilton. This brush pile provides cover for the birds, a warm place on a winter night (the ambient temperature can easily be 10-20 degrees higher within) and a place to catch a bite as well---insects are also attracted to the pile. So what to us is a messy old pile of debris is a high quality hangout for our little friends. Now if I can only figure out how to get a camera in there...
