Cardinals Still Going Strong

Readers may recall that we had a very good breeding year at Cary BirdCam and among our best successes were the Northern Cardinals. I counted at least two broods and believe there was even a third. And here, going into the cold months the family group looks good. I see many healthy birds, and plenty of birds. They're doing quite well with the back yard feeders and continue to show preference for safflower seed that I put out in two different types of feeders. All this Cardinalia will get interesting in the spring when territories must be sorted out. There will be some expulsions but whomever remains gets a very attractive habitat, including some prime tangly growth areas ready-made for the Cardinal tenant. In the meantime, I shall enjoy many sightings and wonderful colors.
