Gloomy Conditions = Birds

Looks more like a winter day out there (than one in "autumn", say) and as I have come to expect, that brings out the birds. Yesterday's dismal conditions brought in some of the fair-weather-deserters. Today saw Juncos and White Throated Sparrows, both hard core winter specimens. The Juncos busied themselves on the deck, seeking seeds and scraps somehow overlooked by the squirrels. They did not find much when I watched. Our friends the White Throated Sparrows were more heard than seen. Two were calling next door when we took a little neighborhood walk. But I know from experience that they are likely all over our backyard, lost in the leafy and tangly floor of the woods. It may be gray in the sky, but it's colorful enough down here! Ha, some "black" Friday...
