Brown Thrasher Hard to Predict

Over the years I've enjoyed many visits by the strikingly handsome Brown Thrasher. But usually, its behavior is difficult to guess... at the feeders, that is. Most often these birds are found skulking in the underbrush of our natural areas, and they're not hard to find with a little time and a well-cocked ear. But as for feeder visits, they might be there. They might not. Yesterday I saw at least one attacking suet for the first time in months. And for all I know that will be it for many days, or weeks. Who knows what brought them out of the shrubs. Perhaps enough slush to frustrate their normal food search. And the sight of all those other birds may have been additional incentive!
