Glad To Hear It

There is a pretty long list of birds I wish would drop by at my property. Realistically, most would not be likely to be present. Of the remaining few, an excellent case could be made for the Song Sparrow. It must be that our woody section is not brushy enough, nor must we be close enough to water. They simply don't grace us. This is not true of the office back forty, and my lunch breaks of late there have been greatly improved by the serenades of this fellow. He brings back springtime memories of the north, and his wonderful repertoire, lilting yet sometimes buzzy, boosts my spirits. So I'll include him as an honorary member of my backyard bird society, and hope that someday, one decides to add its marvelous music there for real.
