Spring Menu Item Drives Them Nuts

For spring (and possibly summer) I've replaced peanut butter with half shelled peanuts, and that menu item is getting a warm response. The Brown Headed Nuthatches (shown) are frequent guests, as are Carolina Wrens and Tufted Titmice, and I've even seen a Carolina Chickadee. Regrettably, an even more frequent visitor is grey and hairy. While the rat hasn't gotten in yet, that won't last and I'll have to wrap this feeder in an anti-squirrel cage on the weekend. Hopefully the most wretched sciurus carolinensis will get the idea. "No peanuts for you!" So the nuts will drive the birds nuts, in one way, and the squirrels in quite another. Ought to be a lot of fun.
