The Buzzard is Back

Our latest juvenile made its first appearance to our knowing last night. That would be a fledgling Red Bellied Woodpecker. This photo (from a previous year, sorry) shows this really awkward looking character. Young RBWs remind me of buzzards, but are endearingly homely critters. And in comparison to the other birds I see, I only see the RBW juveniles at the feeders: no begging, no chasing mom or dad around. They may pull off that stuff earlier in the season but they don't do it at the feeders as far as I've ever seen. That now brings us to at least eight species with confirmed juveniles in 2011 here. I am still counting! and welcome to Junior Red Belly!
