A Happy Trumpet Vine Kind of Day

Ah, what a fine, fine day to be alive in the Piedmont! I will for the moment overlook the rather unseasonable heat (95 F today...third time this week) but I will focus on a bright ray of sunshine of another kind. And that would be the emergence of trumpet vine flowers! At last these orange beauties unfolded and made ready for the eager attention of our Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. Our vines have been spectacular growers and now encircle two entire loblolly pines and a bunch of lower level shrubs. There will be plenty of flowers in the weeks ahead. I've seen this vine flower into September! So great news for all concerned, and something to appreciate in the sultry first week of June.
