The Last Catbird

It is official: the Catbird Summer is over, and the last photo I have of this amazingly predictable species is from August 18: just one day shy of their average taking-leave-of-me date. Already I can see the reduction in suet consumption! But as much as these rascals cost me rather more than I would like, they so enliven the torpid summertime that it's easy to overlook the fault. The catbirds always entertain! And now the season has come to its end, the little devils are out at the coast (hopefully not to be flattened by Hurricane Irene!) and what's left of summer doesn't seem so fun. See you next April, my gray friends! I will eagerly await your return...
