You'd Better Hurry Up!

The youngest member of the Red Bellied Woodpecker clan is also one of the latest to acquire proper plumage. I'm used to seeing these characters in adult colors by September. But Junior is late. I'm wondering if perhaps this bird was fairly recent in origin, in fact, paralleling the bluebirds who had three broods this season. In any event, the juvenile provides us with a little more amusement at the expense of his buzzard-like get-up. But it'd best get things in order. The season is pretty much over and it will want its proper cover for the cold months. Can you believe they're likely only nine weeks away?
