Sunflower Consumption Growing

Nine months into my seed-counting experiment, it looks like the suet spike is past (that took place in June as young birds were in abundance) but sunflower seed consumption is definitely on a steady increase from a late spring low. In September alone I put out an amazing 55 pounds (25 kilos) of sunflower, almost all of it in two feeders now being mobbed by finches. Safflower seed consumption is also down quite a bit from June's high; again a sign of young birds, mostly cardinals and Mourning Doves. The data tell me we are nowhere near the cold months: only in a finch-based feed-a-thon. And I don't know when that will end! More next month...
