Welcomed Here

Blue Jays are frequently and roundly disavowed by birders for their supposed aggressiveness and propensity to wreak havoc on other species' broods. That isn't happening here. I find myself admiring these clever and attractive birds and have had the fortune (?) to have attracted one or more this summer. This Jay doesn't hog the feeder or drive away other birds and seems well behaved enough. Obviously it may be up to its established habits, but that's nature. It's not fun out there, folks. I may even have moderated the Jay sense for plunder a little by offering a free meal. And in exchange I can observe up-close one of the more fascinating genera of birddom. Blue Jay, you're welcome here.
