Yesterday was a very bad day for a small bird at our office complex. A very, very bad day. And quite a sad one for anyone with half a heart. Seems this little fellow collided, somehow, with our third floor. The facilities guy, while sympathetic, was content to live with the ID as "bird, small." I felt compelled to at least memorialize the poor creature with its proper name. A tough ID, but as best I can discern this appears to be a Yellow Bellied Flycatcher. And it is only a migrant in these parts: on its way south. Heaven knows why the bird flew into our building: was it ill? disoriented? All we know for sure is that it won't be wintering in the tropics. Let's hope this rare collision isn't repeated. RIP, little friend.Tuesday, October 11, 2011
