A chat this evening with Mark Johns, our superb naturalist here in Cary, gave me better understanding of the possible diet of my office park Red Tailed Hawk. We have some "meadows"---sites of future buildings---that have gone to seed for two summers. Mark tells me such places are excellent grounds to find Cotton Mice. And Cotton Mice attract Hawks. That would be good news for the songbirds, at least. A couple of acres worth of nice, fat, grain-fed cotton mice would hopefully distract the hawk from, say, Song Sparrows. Let's hope our hawk has reached these conclusions! Happy hunting!
