Quite A Nice Christmas Present
One (and maybe the only?) benefit of being under the weather is getting a little more time to watch the bird activity at the feeders. I enjoyed the antics of the feisty House Finches, the curious pecking behavior of the Juncos (who explored some millet seed I cast out), but most of all the first sighting this season of our Hermit Thrush. "Hermie" is back for a fourth winter! And this bird was hard at work attacking suet. I think it's discovered the suet nuggets in the hanging feeder which perhaps not coincidentally are vanishing daily. What a joy to see this migrant return! And just in time for Christmas. What a gift!
