Winter Lineup: House Finch
Who doesn't have House Finches in winter? or any other time of year? Yes, these gluttonous birds are a special treat for everyone at Yuletide. The vast bulk of the sunflower seed I put out each day is consumed by these characters, affectionately called here as "Hollywood Finches" in tribute to their origins on the west coast. We have quite a few these days. Not only do they load up on the front sunflower seed feeders but spillover birds haunt the other two feeder trees as well. But I love 'em anyway. They provide a singular entertainment when I can sit outside and watch them feed. They jostle, they fight, they twitter. And even in winter, I am not a little glad they're around.
