Winter Lineup: Mourning Dove

It's a little hard not to picture these birds as Turtle Doves at this time of year, but Mourning Doves they are.  And mine, I assume, are Rejoicing.  If not for any other reason that they're especially well fed.  What I discovered some time ago is that MDs are simply crazy for safflower seed and readily visited our feeders when that became a staple offering.  And they're steady visitors to every part of the lawn where dropped seeds are likely to turn up.  They're not glamorous, or very excitable.  But they are a marvelous part of the winter crowd.
