Winter Lineup: Hermit Thrush

For three winters now we've enjoyed regular visits by at least one Hermit Thrush, hence I am confidently counting this species in my lineup of regulars.  We can only enjoy the Hermies in winter, after they conclude a spectacular pas-de-deux with our summer friend, the Wood Thrush (which is occasionally on the property).  Regrettably, the Hermit Thrush does not give us the benefit of its lovely song and I leave it to my more northerly friends to talk about that privilege.  I attracted the Hermit Thrush with suet and peanut butter, and they are evidently very fond of each, although they are in no way designed for the feeders I use for those foods.  When they're not at the feeders, Lord only knows what they're up to.  Being ground level skulkers, and silent ones at that, I couldn't say I've ever come across one in our natural area.  Nevertheless, they're much appreciated favorites here at Cary Bird Cam, and I am expecting the 2012 edition any day now!
