Winter Lineup: Pine Warbler
We're blessed in winter to see two warblers, ordinarily a family of species we'd associate with migration and summer. One is a winter guest only, the other (Pine Warbler) is a perennial. Ours don't seem terribly fussy about visiting feeders at either end of year, but I see a bit more of them in late winter and into the spring. Suet brings them in. But it helps that we back up to mature loblolly pines and these conifer specialists are near enough to consider suet a nice snack if hunting insects gets a little frustrating. And certainly when they raise young, the dependable nutrition source helps greatly! For us, the added color of this species helps greatly at such a drab time. The Pine Warbler is a prize for winter.
