It's off season. There is one nectar feeder left, at least until January. And the target? Rufous Hummingbirds. These hummers are increasingly observed in our Piedmont County and I have taken a stab at attracting one for several years. What a score that would be for us! A winter hummingbird! something to brag about and enjoy. But the trick is attracting one. We don't exactly have a lot of flowering plants or flying insects in the winter. But neither are there a great deal of nectar feeders, either. So the hope is a growing population of birds pushes just far enough to spot my cheery station and visit for the cold months. A fantasy? you never know. It is worth one more try...
